Using Wildcards in Full-Text Search with MS SQL

A wildcard is a special symbol that allows for the substitution of one or more characters in a keyword search term. This enables you to select multiple files or boxes with a single specification.

In full-text search with MS SQL, the asterisk (*) can be used for wildcard searching, and the keyword with the asterisk must be within quotes.

MS SQL does not support leading wildcard searches. An asterisk at the end of a search term matches any characters at the end of the term. For example, entering “bio*” for the search term locates files or boxes whose description contains any word beginning with “bio”.

However, a search where the asterisk is at the front of the criteria, such as “*ology”, is not a supported option.
